Buteyko Breathing
What is the Buteyko Breathing Technique?
The Buteyko Breathing Technique is a natural approach to improving respiratory function and overall health. Developed by Russian physician Konstantin Buteyko, this technique aims to retrain the way we breathe, promoting slower, lighter breathing patterns that can help reduce symptoms of asthma, anxiety, and other respiratory conditions. By focusing on breath awareness and relaxation techniques, the Buteyko method can also enhance physical performance, reduce stress levels, and improve sleep quality. With its simple yet effective principles, the Buteyko Breathing Technique is gaining popularity as a safe, drug-free alternative to traditional respiratory therapies. |
Why might I need BBT?
The Buteyko Breathing Technique can be a great help for people with respiratory issues like asthma, allergies, or COPD. By practicing slower, lighter breathing patterns, the technique can help you to reduce symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. It can also help you to feel more relaxed and less stressed out, which is important because stress can make respiratory problems worse. By improving your breathing habits, you can feel better, sleep better, and even perform better in physical activities. So if you're looking for a safe, natural way to improve your breathing and overall well-being, the Buteyko method might be just what you need! |
How can I learn BBT?
The process for learning BBT takes some commitment as you are learning a new way of doing an instinctive action, one that you've been doing since birth. If you sign up to a course of BBT, you should expect it to take four to five weeks to get to a full 'reset' of your breathing pattern, but you will start to notice positive changes within the first one or two weeks.
Initially, we would start by taking a full case history including discussing any breathing or lifestyle issues you may be experiencing. I will then guide you through the first week's exercises and provide you with a diary and written guide to help you with your practice sessions. For best results you should expect to be doing three 15 minute sessions each day. Sometimes life gets in the way, but it must be stressed that the more you invest in the practice, the better the results you will see. Each week the exercises change slightly depending on your progress and I will be on hand to support and help you, and answer any questions you might have.
I am happy to see you in person either at my clinic in Egham or studio in Virginia Water, or if you would prefer to stay at home and be more relaxed, I can do online consultations.
